South Cliff Community Group

Who are we?

The South Cliff Community Group is a fully constituted, not for profit community group, managed by a small committee of volunteers.

We now have over 400 members.

The geographical area covered by the group, shown on the map by a purple line, is the South Cliff of Scarborough bounded by Belmont Road / Ramshill Road, / Queen Margaret’s Road / Weaponness Drive / College Lane / Filey Road / Wheatcroft Avenue and all properties within that area.

If you are a resident, either full or part time, work or have a business interest within our area, and you are 18yrs or over, we would like to welcome you as a member of the group.

What do we do?

Our primary aim is to promote, develop and maintain a community where people want to live, work and visit.

We work to develop good relationships with key people and agencies who can help us to achieve our aim and provide reassurance to members. These include local Councillors, members of Scarborough Borough Council, the Police, other agencies and similar groups.

We hold quarterly meetings when we invite our Ward Councillors, local police officers and other guests to talk to the group about key developing matters, and where members can raise issues that concern them. These may relate to community matters such as planning, housing, crime/prevention, events, transport or tourism.

We run informal coffee mornings every 6 weeks, where members can meet new friends, and socialise.

The Police often hold a surgery at our coffee mornings where we can chat informally with them about anything that concerns us, and a member of the local Safer Communities team often joins us for a similar purpose.

Our committee keeps up to date with issues that may affect our members and the South Cliff area and, when appropriate, we consult with our members to get their opinions so that their views are represented.

We keep in contact with members by email and send out periodic Newsletters to keep them up to date with developing issues and events. Some of our previous Newsletters can be found on a later page.

We hand deliver these newsletters/updates to those of our members who do not use IT.

Our members continue to support our recommendation that we have an initial £5 per person registration fee, which we hope will continue to be a one off fee, and will be decided by members at our AGM in November of each year.

We hope that we will be able to welcome you as a member.
